چکیده

In this paper, the strain-based and stressbased methods for solving optimal orientation problems of orthotropic materials are studied. Closed form solutions for both methods are derived and classified. The optimal orientation of both shear “weak” and some shear “strong” orthotropic materials may coincide with the major principal stress direction in the stress-based method. Similar results from the strain-based method are also derived. From the derivations, however, it can also be shown that both methods may fail under a special condition called “repeated global minimum” condition.

Optimal bead orientation of 3D shell/plate structures

In this paper, the optimal bead orientation problem of 3D shell/plate structures is investigated for both static and dynamic cases. Using a bending equivalent orthotropic shell design cell model, the optimal bead orientation problem is converted to an optimal orientation problem of bending equivalent orthotropic materials, and it is solved by a new energy based method. In the energy based metho...

Free Vibration Analysis of Microtubules as Orthotropic Elastic Shells Using Stress and Strain Gradient Elasticity Theory

In this paper, vibration of the protein microtubule, one of the most important intracellular elements serving as one of the common components among nanotechnology, biotechnology and mechanics, is investigated using stress and strain gradient elasticity theory and orthotropic elastic shells model. Microtubules in the cell are influenced by internal and external stimulation and play a part in con...

A Multi Plane Model for Natural Anisotropy of Sand

Anisotropy of sand is mainly due to the geometrical arrangement of particles that depends on the orientation of applied load respect to the bedding plane. It is geologically due to micro-fabric created by the arrangement of the particles configured during deposition. Most of the models develop using stress/strain invariants are not capable of identifying this kind of anisotropy. This is mainly ...

Modelling Mechanical Properties of AISI 439-430Ti Ferritic Stainless Steel Sheet

The comprehension of the anisotropy impacts on mechanical properties of the rolled steel sheets was investigated using a non-quadratic anisotropic yield function. In this study, experimental and modelling determination regarding the behaviour of an industrial rolled sheet for a ferritic stainless low-carbon steel were carried out. The parameters of the associated yield equation, derived from th...

On Analysis of Stress Concentration in Curvilinear Anisotropic Deformable Continuum Bodies

In cylindrical continua, hoop stresses are induced due to the circumferential failure. This mainly happens when the cylinder is subjected to mechanical loads which vary in the circumferential directions. On the other hand, radial stress is stress in the direction of or opposite to the central axis of a cylindrical body. In the present study, the influence of curvilinear anisotropy on the radial...
